Jackson Hole: Lessons and Passes

Jackson: Ski Lessons The ski area above Teton Village is arranged on two mountains, Rendezvous and Apres Vous.

Apres Vous is more of a beginner’s area with a green run network at the bottom and a blue runs

at the top. There is also a Snowpark which is very popular with young skiers and boarders. The Rendezvous is served by an Arial Tram which warns passengers to respect the mountain and understand its many double-black-diamond trails.

Beginners

It is true to say that Jackson Hole is not a great place for beginners, only ten percent of the slopes are green (easy). However, it does have a fantastic ski school and if you learn here it will make other resorts look easy. The two chairs that give access to the learning slopes are the Eagle’s Nest double and the Teewinot quad. The best place to go after the beginner slopes is the Apres Vous Mountain but some blue slopes can be as difficult as some blacks!

Intermediates

Forty percent of the slopes are for Intermediates with miles of perfectly groomed pistes and long cruisy runs. It is best to start at Apres Vous Mountain and work your way across from right to left. Werner and Moran are good places to practice due to their groomed and undulating runs. Casper Bowl’s runs have sudden dips and trees. The Easy Does it and Casper lift line runs are wide enough to practice your carved turns. The Moran Woods located to the far left will test your tree line skills.

Advanced

Rendez Vous Mountain offers unforgettable views and runs down for the advanced skier and snowboarder. Corbet’s Couloir is a 10-20ft drop into a narrow, steep and tree lined run. The S&S Couloir is unmarked and even more difficult, requiring a visit to the ski patrol for approval first. The Hobacks offers some of the best powder runs in the area but in poor conditions this area can become icy. The Rendezvous Bowl is wide and has big bumps. The Alta Chutes are steep and littered with rocks. There are also runs not on the trail map which include the Toilet Bowl and Paradise Lost. Also, tree lined runs are available to the right of Bivouac and around the Bird In The Hand near the Cheyenne Bowl.

Snowboarding

There are natural pipes, steep slopes and cliff jumps found right across the mountain.

A Snowpark is situated at the bottom of Apres Vous Mountain between Werner and Hanna which is well maintained with 17ft high walls.

Two natural pipes are located at Dude’s Ditch which is located above Dick’s Ditch. If you are looking for ‘big air’ try Rock Springs Canyon or ask a local for the best areas.
